Face Lift in Colorado Springs

Time, sun and the environment take their toll on your appearance in many unwelcome ways. Over the years, the skin becomes looser and fine lines and wrinkles start to form. These changes can give you an older and more tired appearance than you feel inside. A facelift is a surgical procedure that rejuvenates and refreshes your appearance, trimming away the years and restoring your youthful vitality. At the Institute of Plastic Surgery, we offer different options in facelift techniques to ensure you receive the procedure that is tailored to your specific needs.

Facelift Overview

A facelift or rhytidectomy is specifically designed to reverse moderate to severe signs of aging on the face. It is typically recommended when non-surgical treatments can no longer keep up with aging symptoms and a more dramatic change is desired. This procedure addresses the primary concerns associated with facial aging, including:

  • Skin laxity around the jawline, resulting in the formation of jowls
  • Loose skin in the midface that creates a hollow, unhealthy appearance
  • Fine lines and bags that appear underneath the eyes
  • Facial creases that form around the nose and mouth
  • Loss of definition around the cheekbones and jawline
  • Displaced fat that gives the face a worn and weary look

A facelift provides youthful results when performed alone, but can also be combined with procedures like an eyelid lift, a brow lift or a neck lift to further enhance your outcome. Our surgeons at the Institute of Plastic Surgery will discuss your specific needs and desired results so that you can decide if a facelift is the right choice for you.

Facelift Procedure Options

A facelift is not a “one-size-fits-all” procedure. To ensure natural, beautiful results, the surgery must be tailored to the unique needs and facial features of each patient. Dr. Jain will employ a variety of techniques to ensure the results of your facelift meet your expectations. Those options include:

Traditional Facelift

This procedure involves incisions that run through the hairline at the temples and around the ears. The underlying muscles are tightened, and tissue is repositioned to create a natural result. Excess skin is excised to create a firmer, smoother surface to the face.

Short-Scar Lift or Mini-Lift

This procedure requires smaller incisions than a traditional facelift and is often recommended for patients that do not require quite as much correction. The procedure involves a bit less downtime, and scarring is reduced somewhat in comparison to the traditional lift.

Neck Lift

If the primary concern is focused on the jawline and underneath the chin, a neck lift may be a better option. This procedure removes vertical banding around the neck and tightens the skin underneath the chin to eliminate the “turkey wattle” that often forms over time. Although this is an option for some patients, it is not as common a procedure as the traditional face lift as most people also have some degree of looseness of the lower face.

Facelift Candidates

Candidates for a facelift are men and women who have significant signs of aging they would like to reverse. The procedure is safe for patients in generally good health and non-smokers. If you smoke, you will need to quit many weeks before and after your surgery, since nicotine can interfere with anesthesia and the healing process. It is important to have realistic expectations of what a facelift will do before your surgery. Dr. Jain will spend time with each patient to ensure they understand the specific results they can look forward to after their procedure.

Facelift Procedure Details

We perform our facelifts under general anesthesia in most cases, which means you will be asleep for your surgery. Some mini-lifts may be performed using local anesthesia with sedation. The surgery might take a couple of hours to complete, longer if you are combining the facelift with another procedure. After the corrections are made, tiny sutures will be used to meticulously close the incisions to minimize post-operative scarring. You will likely go home the same day as your surgery.

Facelift Recovery

There is some bruising and swelling after a facelift, which will improve with time and sleeping with your head elevated. Oral pain medication will help to keep you comfortable in the first few days of your recovery process. Most patients only experience mild pain with facelift surgery. Most of our patients are back to light activities within about one week and ready for social activities after two weeks when bruising and swelling subside significantly.

Facelift Benefits

A facelift offers dramatic, long-lasting results that can take up to 10 years off your appearance. The results will not be permanent but will extend for many years before the effects of time begin to take their toll once again. This procedure does more to redefine your facial contours, particularly around the neck and jawline, than any other cosmetic treatment available today. You can enjoy increased confidence in both your professional and your personal life as your refreshed outer appearance matches your youthful spirit.

A facelift offers numerous benefits to the right patient, which is why it is one of the most performed plastic surgery procedures today.
