Liposuction and Fat Reduction in Colorado Springs, CO
Our Plastic Surgeons, serving the Colorado Springs and surrounding areas are highly trained in the art of body sculpting using liposuction. For individuals that find certain areas of the body resistant to weight loss even with vigorous diet and exercise, liposuction is designed to remove excess fat in those areas.
Liposuction is intended to remove excess fat in areas such as the abdomen, love handles (also know as the flanks), inner and outer thighs, knees, hips, upper arms, bra line area, outer breast, neck and chin. It is an excellent procedure for creating a slimmer and more contoured appearance to those difficult areas.
Am I a good candidate for a Liposuction?
Liposuction is intended to improve the appearance and contour of those areas where exercise does not help. Many people who exercise regularly will note that certain areas of the body do not appear to respond. Our plastic surgeons in Colorado Springs often hear from their liposuction patients that regardless of how hard they exercise and work on these stubborn areas, they are not able to lose these fat depositions.
The ideal person for liposuction is someone who has firm skin with good elasticity, a stable weight that is close to their desired weight and eats a healthy diet and exercises regularly. The age of a person is not a major consideration when considering liposuction, although patients tend to lose skin elasticity as they get older. Elasticity is the quality of the skin that allows it to snap back into place when it is pulled, just like a tight rubberband would.
It is important to be physically and psychologically healthy with realistic expectations before proceeding with liposuction surgery in Colorado Springs with plastic surgeons Dr. Krishna Dash and Dr. Rupesh Jain. They will assess if you are a good candidate for liposuction during your consultation with them and give you an estimation of what results you might achieve with liposuction surgery.
What is involved with the Liposuction Consultation?
After you contact our Plastic Surgery office in Colorado Springs, our office staff will arrange for your consultation with one of board certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Krishna Dash or Dr. Rupesh Jain.
During your consultation they will do a thorough evaluation and assessment of the areas of fat deposition. They will ensure that your skin is of good enough quality and elasticity such that you will achieve the desired contour after surgery. At the completion of your consult, their office will provide you with an exact quote for the cost of surgery.
Our plastic surgeons will provide you with a great deal of information at the consultation to ensure you are fully informed with what liposuction surgery is before you proceed with your surgery.
How is Liposuction Performed?
Small incisions are placed adjacent to that areas that will be liposuctioned. The liposuction sites are filled with a saline solution (salt water mix) that contains Lidocaine with Epinephrine (used to constrict the blood vessels). This makes the area tight with the fluid so that the fat is more easily removed with liposuction. A surgical instrument called a cannula is then used to suction the fat out.
For more fibrous areas (dense tissue), our surgeons will often employ the use of the technologically advanced VASER® liposuction. VASER® liposuction uses ultrasonic sound waves to break up and separate the fat cell for more easy removal while minimizing damage to adjacent vital tissues. It provides greater precision in sculpting a fine contour with liposuction. Our surgeons will provide you more detailed information during your consultation.
Where is Liposuction Surgery Performed?
Liposuction is usually performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure at our preferred surgery center. Patients are discharged from the surgery center on the same day as the surgery so there is no need to stay overnight at the facility. Postoperatively, your surgeon will require you to wear a body garment that is skin tight to help push down the skin overlying the areas of liposuction. This ensures that the skin forms a smooth contour while minimizing any irregularities.
There are certain areas of the body where liposuction can be performed in our plastic surgery office in Colorado Springs under local anesthesia. The area most commonly done in the office is the chin region. Dr. Dash and Dr. Jain will be able to determine what setting is best suited for your surgery.
What are the Incisions used for Liposuction?
Near the areas where liposuction will be performed, a small incision is made in a discreet location. The incisions are placed strategically to make them as hidden as possible. The length of the incisions are about the same size as the diameter of a pencil.
What is the recovery from Liposuction Surgery?
The recovery from liposuction varies based on how much and what locations liposuction is performed. In general, it is not a very painful procedure. Our physicians will prescribe pain medication to appropriately control your pain level after surgery.
Our surgeons are very meticulous about following up with their patients after surgery. They will see you back in their Colorado Springs office within the first few days after surgery to ensure your are doing well. They will continue to see you regularly after surgery to ensure your safe recovery.
