Learn about body cosmetic surgery procedures

Board certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Dash & Dr. Jain serving the Colorado Springs, Denver & Pueblo areas, can help you achieve the body you desire with a wide variety of different surgical techniques such as, liposuction, tummy tuck, body contouring, lower body lift, thigh lift, and arm lift.

Liposuction

Liposuction can refine your figure by removing excess fat from specific areas of the body such as the abdomen, love handles, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, arms, chin and neck.  It is particularly useful for those areas of the body that are stubborn and will not respond to even strenuous exercise.

Liposuction is performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. Postoperatively, your surgeon will require you to wear a body garment that is skin tight to help push down the skin overlying the areas of liposuction. This ensures that the skin forms a smooth contour while minimizing any irregularities.

It is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures today. It is a safe and effective method for improving the contour of your figure and restoring your shapely appearance. Board certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Dash and Dr. Jain, can examine you during your consultation to see if liposuction is a suitable procedure to help you attain the body you desire.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Tummy tuck is the procedure used to remove excess skin and fat of the abdominal region.  Occasionally, the muscle layer enclosing the abdominal cavity can become stretched out and loosened from pregnancy, weight change and age, giving you a protruding abdominal area.

A tummy tuck begins with an incision in the bikini area, just above the pubic hair line. The skin and fat of the abdomen is then elevated off of the muscle layer. If needed, the muscle layer is tightened with a row of stitches above and below the belly button. Meanwhile, the belly button is left attached to the muscle layer. The excess skin and fat is then pulled and stretched down to the incision and removed. A small opening is then created in order to relocate the belly button.

The result of the tummy tuck is a significantly flatter and tighter abdominal region. It will help reestablish the smooth contour of your stomach, waistline and reverse the effects of weight changes and pregnancy.

Our board certified cosmetic surgeons, Dr. Dash and Dr. Jain feel that a tummy tuck is a very satisfying procedure for patients because of the dramatic improvement in the shape of the upper body and torso.  It can have a dramatic effect on your self perception by helping you look and feel great in clothes you thought you could never wear.

Body Contouring after Massive Weight Loss

Patients who undergo stomach stapling or by-pass procedures can sometimes lose 100 or more pounds over 18 months. As result, they are often left with significant excess and loose, saggy skin in the arms, breast, abdomen, thighs and buttock regions. Sometimes this baggy skin can be quite debilitating, with difficulty fitting into cloths, frequent skin infections, and skin chaffing.

Body contouring surgery can produce profound improvements in one's body shape. There are numerous different procedures that can be performed, including, arm lift, tummy tuck, circumferential body lift, lower body lift, and thigh lift. Due the length of each procedure, it is usually recommended that the area of most concern be performed in the first stage with the subsequent procedures based on the patient's priorities. Most patients will find that they can achieve the body they are looking for in 2-3 staged surgeries.

Dr. Dash and Dr. Jain will help you decided what procedures are best suited to your needs and what sequence will bring you the greatest satisfaction in the safest manner. Your safety and satisfaction is their number primary focus while achieving your goals.

Circumferential Body Lift or Lower Body Lift

The skin of the torso, abdomen, thighs and buttock region tends to droop with time due to nature and the force of gravity. This is also common in patients who experience massive weight loss after a stomach stapling procedure or from regular exercise and dieting. In order to resuspend the sagging skin, a circumferential body lift, sometimes also referred to as lower body lift, can be performed.

The circumferential body lift is an extensive procedure that involves removing the excess skin all the way around the lower abdomen, the lower back, hip and buttock region. After removing the skin, the hanging tissue of the thighs, buttock, hips and abdomen are attached to a higher location to lift the tissues back into their normal location. This tightens and smoothens the skin envelope of the entire lower torso.

Due to the extensive and lengthy nature of the procedure, lower body lifting is performed under general anesthesia requiring an overnight stay at the surgery center or hospital where it is performed.

Patients undergoing circumferential or lower body lifting will experience one of the most dramatic results that cosmetic surgery can produce. It can have a profound effect on one's self-perception and confidence.

Thigh Lift (Thighplasty)

Over years of repeated walking, sitting, standing, and running, the skin of the thighs can begin to deteriorate and become saggy and unsightly. The inner thighs are more often affected than the outer thighs. Unfortunately, liposuction can not always correct this problem due to insufficient skin elasticity in that region. However, a thigh lift can rejuvenate the inner thighs to a more youthful and smooth state.

Thigh lift involves removal of the excess skin and fat of the thighs that can occur with aging, weight loss, and loss of skin elasticity.  It can dramatically improve the appearance of loose, saggy thighs.  It is often done in conjunction with other procedures, such as, tummy tuck or arm lifts, in patients who have significant weight loss after gastric bypass surgery.

Thigh lift surgery is usually performed on as an outpatient surgery, unless it is combined with other body contouring procedures, in which case, an overnight stay may be prudent. The procedure is done under general anesthesia and can take 2 to 4 hours to perform. The incisions are placed in the upper inner thigh region, a location which is inconspicuous and well hidden with a bathing suit.

Upper Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

An upper arm lift procedure is ideal for those patients whose upper arms have become loose and saggy with age, weight loss, and loss of skin elasticity.  It involves removal of excess skin and fat of the upper, inner arms.  The upper arm, just like the inner thigh, does not always respond well to liposuction due to loss of skin elasticity. Therefore, sometimes the best option is to remove the excess skin and fat surgically.

The best candidates for this procedure have saggy, loose skin in the upper arms, particularly after massive weight loss. The incision used to remove the unwanted skin and fat is placed on the inner side of the upper arm to make it less noticeable.  In the right individual this can be a very rewarding procedure that results in a significant improvement in the appearance of the arms.

At the Institute of Plastic Surgery, board certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Dash and Dr. Jain, will spend the necessary time with you to help decide what body contouring procedures are best suited to meet your desires. With the right choice of cosmetic surgery procedures you can achieve your full potential.
